“Under the Bridge”
Red Hot Chili Peppers | 1991
Despite serving as the Red Hot Chili Peppers' breakthough hit, "Under the Bridge" detailed a dark point in singer Anthony Kiedis' life, when he was battling heroin addiction. "I ran into some fairly unscrupulous characters involved with miniature Mafioso drug rings," Kiedis told Rolling Stone. "And the hangout for one of these gangs was this particular location under a bridge. I ended up going there with this gang member, and the only way that I was allowed to go under this bridge was for him to tell everybody else that I was married to his sister." The original 1992 "Bridge" CD single contained the song "Soul to Squeeze," which would be reissued as its own single a year later.
